For store lighting, the basic lighting shouldn’t be too bright. The illuminance ratio of accent lighting to basic lighting should be 5 to 1 to create contrast and a sense of layering. The lighting on mannequins is usually about twice that of accent lighting and roughly 10 times that of basic lighting to highlight them and attract customers’ attention.

The store should have focal and emphasized areas, not all the same. Lighting guides customers, leading their path and shopping route, making the brand visible at a glance, and ensuring the checkout counter can be found from any spot. The color rendering of the store's lighting should show off the material of the clothes.

Fitting rooms should be brightly lit so customers can see the fabric and how the clothes look when worn. The color temperature should be comfortable and suitable for the type of clothing; for example, formal wear needs neutral light, while underwear needs warm light.

The lighting angle should be appropriate. Mannequins are usually lit from the front and slightly from the side, with a narrower beam angle. Window displays should have lighting that fully illuminates the clothes, with proper vertical and horizontal illuminance, using a slightly wider beam angle. There shouldn’t be glare, especially in front of fitting room mirrors. According to the principles of light reflection, the light should not shine directly into customers’ eyes.
